DIY how-to-put-the-embroidery-on-the-card tutorial

Alrighty, here's the promised tutorial on how to get that embroidery piece onto that card. It's a pretty basic tutorial and it calls for pretty basic tools- so it's pretty basic. :) So what you'll need is:

• A Card (or card stock that you can fold and cut into a card)
• Embroidery piece (mine is from the pattern Scandinavian Birds I designed by the Split Stitch)
• Glue (glue sticks wouldn't work for this project)
• Felt (I used a cream color)
• Scissors
• Embroidery floss (that would match up with your embroidery piece)
  

First, place your embroidery piece on top of your card. Trim it a little bit, if needed, to the size you want it at.

Place the embroidery piece on top of felt. Cut around. Use picture above as a guide.

It should look something like this- your embroidery piece now has a felt frame. :)

With your coordinating embroidery floss, use the running stitch to sew the embroidery piece down onto the felt.

It should look something like this.

With your glue, coat the backside of the felt. Be generous but don't soak.

With a little scrap of felt you can smooth out the glue. If you're not the messy type, you can use the side of a tooth instead.

Now gently lay the glue-coated side down onto the card. Make sure it's centered before you press it down.

Press down.

Now it should look something like this.

And there you go! A pretty card with your embroidery piece on it. :)

Been there- done that. Haven't we all? I used to think I was from planet Mars because I thought I was so weird.

But the truth is...

I am weird.

And I'm proud of it.

They should have t-shirt with that on there, shouldn't they? "I'm weird and I'm proud of it." Anyway, back to what I was saying...

I wanted to be normal. I wanted to blend in. I wanted to be another red apple on the tree but I always was the green one. And this is what always was in my mind,

"God, why did you make me, me?"

I continued on my quest to "normal" until I eventually couldn't find "normal" because I got to the point where I was like, "What is normal anyway?" And then I was reminded of this verse...

The Lord does not look

at the things man looks at.

Man looks at the outward appearance,

but the Lord looks at the heart.

-1 Samuel 16:7

That's what really showed me that God doesn't care about what I look like, just what I hold in my heart. I know for us girls, we care about who we are and what we look like but God doesn't see us that way. He sees us as "peculiar treasures" (like they say in the Christy Miller series, by Robin Jones Gunn).

So from now on I'm just going to be

Me.

Not somebody else.

Just me.

Plain, weird, me.

I know the world says that I should be something else. But I don't want to be what they say I should be, I want to be what God says I should be. Isn't that what matters most?

Besides, being normal is boring. Being me is what I like to do. :) So I encourage all you "normal-wanna-be's" to be yourself. God created you that way- to be you. So live like it! Don't pretend to be somebody you're not because God loves you just the way you are. :)

remembering 9\11...

It's already been 10 years- wow. 9\11 was such a hard time for our country...and for some people who lost some family or friends, I bet it still hurts. But even though sometimes life hurts us and we fall down, God can pick us up and love us again. Take today to remember the innocent people who lost their lives just 10 years ago to remember 9\11.

Yesterday, it was steaming hot here in California and today-- well, it rained-- it actually thundered and poured. Talk about crazy weather! But I don't mind summer walking out the door that suddenly because

I LOVE FALL.

I love it,

I love it,

I love it!

I love fall because of the smell that's in the air, the festive feel that fills your home, the icy chilliness that makes you want to snuggle in a heap of blankets, and when you walk around, the sound of crunching leaves underneath your shoes. Oh, I love fall!!!

I couldn't help but look around on etsy for some fall inspiration. :)

Oh, and who doesn't love the look of acorns? They are so cute and... awesome! I'll have to make some sort of craft that has to do with acrons because these fellas are classic! :)

I love fall. Is there anything more to say about it? Thank you, God, for fall- thanks a ton really! Thanks for colorful leaves, trees, the wind, and rain. Thank you for a warm home and a chilly outside... Thank you God for fall! You really know how to make me happy! :)

Doodling with "An Encylopedia of 101 Embroidery Stitches"

I'm borrowing an embroidery book called, An Encylopedia of 101 Embroidery Stitches, by Jane Cannon Meyers. It's a bit of an outdated book but the stitches that it holds are timeless.

And so today, I decided to doodle with those crazy, yet amazing stitches! Lot of fun and maybe I'll show you how to make them someday. :)

The stitches I tested out are called, Double Blanket Stitch, Lattice Stitch, and the Sheaf Stitch. The more square looking stitch is the Lattice Stitch and the stitch that look like little bushels of hay is the Sheaf Stitch. Below, is the Double Blanket Stitch, which so happens to be my favorite of the three so far. :)

I'm staying a bit safe in my comfort zone with the 101 embroidery stitches to choose from. Maybe I'll get a bit more crazy like some of those stitches and test those out too. But, don't count on it! :)

My Trip & Ami Kitty

So, you guys all (or most of you) know that I was on trip this past week and a half traveling all over north of California. Well, I'm back! :)


I went up to Sacramento and did a lot of tours of the place- including the Capital. The Capital's architecture is beautiful and if you ever happen to be taking a tour inside, make sure to take a good long look at the inside of the dome. It is pretty impressive I must say. :)

I also stopped by San Francisco. Now this city definitely has character. :) But whenever I think of San Francisco I think of the Golden Gate Bridge. It's a massive, red bridge that stretches from one side of the San Francisco Bay to the other. I took a tour that took us underneath the Golden Gate Bridge, which you can tell by the angle of the picture above. This unique place is a fun city to tour.


I traveled other places as well, but these are the two key places I thought I'd mention. :)

Like any other crafter, I brought along a crochet project to do. It's a "Tiny Ami" Kitty using the pattern from the book, Amigurumi World, by Ana Paula Rimoli. It was a lot of fun to work on and I think it turned out real cute! :) It is a gift for my Grandma. :)
